You are at a party. After discussing the sluggish economy, Obama’s prospects, security versus civil liberties and so on for some time, a trick might be in order - just to mix things up a bit. The problem is that party tricks are often so boring. Or you come across as Criss Angel’s failed cousin (even the original is annoying). Instead, try this combination of cornstarch, water, a subwoofer and a metal sheet (see video below):

The county administrative board of Dalarna (Länsstyrelsen i Dalarna) has made Kris Kristofferson “Ambassador of Honour of Dalarna“. I am not sure if this will have any effects beyond short-term publicity, but I like this initiative anyway. The award is given to someone with a strong connection to Dalarna, which Kristofferson apparently has this through his ancestors. In return, the administrative board expects him to spread “the many values” of the county to a wider audience. This fuzzy language could mean pretty much anything.
It is hard not to like the versatile Kristofferson. He will accept the award at a concert in Dalhalla, July 28.
According to IMDB, he has uttered words of wisdom like: “Never go to bed with anyone crazier than yourself.”
New York Magazine has a special on spring fashion. One of their features is about New Yorkers who only wear one color, all the time. For brown they are interviewing Stephin Merritt, the versatile singer-songwriter. He explains himself well:
So why didn’t you start wearing black?
Unfortunately, black at this point tends to make you look like a French tourist in Soho. It also makes me look ill. I look ill enough; I really don’t need to call attention to that. But brown is good?
I have brown hair and eyes, and I believe in matching.
I know what he means. Mr. Merritt, the man in brown.
This is pretty powerful - if you support Obama. Although I tend to agree with the critics, that Obama is often too abstract, the video is simply nice. It is harmless and uplifting. It features John Legend, will.i.am, and other celebrities in the entertainment business.
The origin of this video is a little mysterious. It can be traced to a Mr.Dippy, a cartoon character.

This music video with Nik Kershaw illustrates how it sometimes feels to work on a dissertation; it can be absurd and confusing. I think challenging is the term people use in job applications.
I know David Lynch has directed music videos, but I do not think this is one of them. It nevertheless seems like something he could have produced because of its stream of consciousness lyrics and Alice in Wonderland aesthetics.
The Riddle is also a musical and sartorial statement from the 1980s but I think it is interesting for mainly other reasons.

I brought a CD to the gym today. Thanks to LM for mixing the CD!
-Can I change the music, I asked the guy at the front desk.
-Sure, he replied back, without lifting his eyes from the computer screen.
So instead of Pink, Hey there Delilah or whatever it is on the radio, I played, among others: Stop! In the Name of Love - Crescent and Frost, and Get Up Offa That Thing - James Brown.
James Brown certainly has a place at the gym almost regardless of the tempo of the workout or the time of the day, but it felt just slightly awkward to play “Stop In the Name of Love” to a room filled with weight-lifting people. However, the awkwardness was nothing compared to they joy I felt by the contrast it created. Watch the video and imagine it with grunts.

Due to popular demand. Here it goes:
—
Lives are like delicate pencils
If you push them too hard they’re gonna break
And people are like paper dolls
Paper dolls and people, they’re a similar shape
Hmm hmm hm
Love is like a roll of tape
It’s real good for making two things one
But just like that roll of tape
Love sometimes breaks off before you were done
Another way that love is similar to tape
That I’ve noticed
Is sometimes it’s hard to see the end
You search on the roll…

I do not grow tired of them.
—
Looking ’round the room
I can tell that you
Are the most beautiful girl
In the room.
In the whole wide room
And when you’re on the street
Depending on the street
I bet that you are definitely
In the top three
Good looking girls on the street…
…’Cause you’re so beautiful
Like a tree
Or a high-class prostitute
You’re so beautiful
You could be a part-time model
But you’d probably still have to keep your normal job

It is a fantastic song. These guys do not like each other any more. Things are pretty gloomy and there seems to have been a lot of drama, but they nevertheless try to stay positive and to look forward with a sort of down-to-earth optimism. I really dislike sweeping statements about cultures. Anyway, here it goes. This song captures a part of what it means to be Swedish.
